Physical and postal — two different problems, one service

A physical address is where something is located — a street, complex, farm or informal settlement. A postal address is where mail is received — a PO Box, Private Bag, or PostNet Suite. A business often has both, and they can be completely different. Our validation handles each according to its own addressing rules.

Email validation is a different discipline to address validation

The Address Genius Toolkit is designed for organisations that process address or email data at high enough volume that a per-call API model becomes expensive, slow or impractical. The 15km rule — and why managing correspondents manually creates risk

Every summons signed by an attorney must bear a physical address within 15 kilometres of the courthouse. Where the instructing firm falls outside that radius, a correspondent attorney who IS within jurisdiction must be appointed to handle the matter locally — filing at court, taking delivery of documents and managing the service process.

Role 1 — Summons Record Enrichment

When Prosource processes your summons through our bureau, correspondent assignment happens automatically during validation and enrichment. After the address is validated, geocoded and assigned to the correct magisterial district and court, our system draws from the correspondent database to populate the correct attorney on the summons record — based on court, jurisdiction and 15km compliance.

When a standard electronic signature isn't enough

South African law recognises multiple forms of electronic signatures — but for high-stakes legal documents, only an Advanced Electronic Signature (AES) carries the legal weight required. An AES is uniquely linked to the signer, verified through a formal identity process, and issued by a South African Accreditation Authority (SAAA) accredited provider.

Under Section 13(4) of the Electronic Communications and Transactions (ECT) Act, an AES carries a rebuttable presumption of validity — it is legally presumed valid unless proven otherwise. That presumption does not apply to a standard electronic signature.

The affidavit problem in electronic legal process

When a summons or default judgement is served electronically — via Registered Email or eRegistered Mail — the delivery is legally valid. But to use that delivery as evidence in court proceedings, you need a supporting affidavit confirming the electronic service was properly carried out.

That affidavit must be signed by an attorney with an AES, and then witnessed by a Commissioner of Oaths — also with an AES. Prosource began as a foundational South African mailhouse — a time when physical mail was the heartbeat of business communication. We built our expertise from the production floor up, mastering the physical logistics of document delivery before a single line of software was written.

The Print Bureau

By 1998, we had evolved into a high-capacity transactional print bureau, investing in the commercial-grade laser technology required to power the nation's largest billing and statement runs. Our Randburg facility became the production engine for high-volume financial and legal document output.
